Subject: Rays versus Waves?

On the electromagnetic spectrum, you have both waves and rays.  For 
example, there are radio waves and there are gamma rays.  What is the 
difference?  My students are confused because they believe that they 
are all electromagnetic waves.  Can you please clear up this question 
for my classes?  Thanks in advance.
