When probes are emplanted in a higher animal to connect to a neuron (axion?) to sample or record the electrictal activity of that neuron how long can the probe normally be left in before infection or rejection becomes a problem. I know it probably varies widely but a "general answer" would be very much appreciated. Man is an acceptable example of the higher animal and by left in I mean through the skin. Thanks!
