What is the difference between weathering and erosion?

Dear Karen:

You've asked a tough question.

I'll give you a short reply and if you want more information
you can contact me directly by e-mail, OK?

Most geologists define erosion as all the processes that loosen
and remove rock from the surface of the earth. Weathering is usually defined
as only those processes that cause rock at the earth's surface to break apart,
decay, or dissolve.

So erosion includes weathering as well as other processes. For example,
a landslide would be a part of erosion, but not a part of weathering.
