Why would a person pass out and go into convulsions after donating blood?
This actually happened to me a few years ago and nobody's ever
really given me a reason why this happened. I've just been told not
to donate again (not a problem after that experience). I followed all o
the instructions for eating and drinking before donating. At one point,
while I was sitting at the juice and cookie table, the spot where the
needle had been inserted started to bleed. I wasn't alarmed because
I knew that this can happen and that by applying pressure to the
area it would eventually stop bleeding. Just as a volunteer was
grabbing some nearby napkins to stop it, I passed out. I was told
later about the convulsions and I spent approx. 3 hours in the Red
Cross throwing up. I know that I'm in good health. I just wonder why
some people have more dramatic problems donating blood than
others.
