Clay soil
The area I live in is hilly (foothills of the Berkshires) and the
ground is always scattered with boulders, and the soil is mostly
clay.  I know some soil is of volcanic origin, but how did the
soil in my area get to be clay?  Where did it come from, and why
are there so many stones and boulders?
