I recommend scrubbing with a nice concentrated solution of sodium
bicarbonate (baking soda). It will neutralize the formic acid, and the
scrubbing will mechanically remove any remaining sodium formate.
I do not make any claim that this is foolproof. I think it is surely
worth a try, though. If it doesn't work, I might suggest some D-con!
