Yes, every plant needs chlorophyll to survive.  Chlorophyll is 
essential to photosynthesis.  Photosynthesis is what gives a plant energy. 
Just like humans eat food to get energy, a plant absorbs sunlight to gain 
energy.  Without chlorophyll a plant would not be able to convert sunlight 
into energy, just like a person without a stomach wouldn't be able to 
digest food.  Chlorophyll is what changes all light into energy (except 
green light).  Green light is reflected away from the plant the same way a 
person throws away an apple core.  That is why most plants look green, the 
light not being used for energy is reflected into our eyes.
