Oh help me, please, Dr. Mad Scientists!

I seem to recall reading in a respectable newspaper (The Times, I
think) that researchers have described a fifth type of taste, in
addition to sweet, sour, bitter, and salty. I spouted off about it to
a couple of co-workers and now cannot find any information to back it
up.

Please, oh please tell me it's true and not a figment of my over-
active imagination or a remnant dream that encroached on my conscious
mind. My status as "that know-it-all" is on the line.

Peter
