Hi Christy, 
First off, are you sure it is black or rather dark dark green? I can explain 
green - in lower karat gold, there is contamination by copper. The copper 
undergoes a chemical reaction with oxygen in the air to give the green.

Now, if your black is really black, then I don't know!
