Greetings:

There are a number of Web sites with links to future concepts in
transportation. The Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) URL is :

http://www.itsonline .com.

This site reports on studies of the impact of information systems and
satellite communications and navigation systems on future transportation
concepts such as the intelligent vehicle highway system. The site also
includes telecommuting and other concepts in virtual transport systems.

The U. S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has a science and technology
(S&T) web site with links to many of the university programs studying
future transportation concepts. The DOT S&T website URL is :

http://www.scietech.dot.gov

Future transportation systems will use new sources of energy such as
hydrogen, photovoltaics, solar etc. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)
has extensive information and links to worldwide programs addressing new
energy sources for transportation systems. The DOE Advanced Fuel Data
Center (AFDC) URL is:

http:www.afdc.doe.gov

The State of California Sponsors many programs in alternate transportation
systems under the CALSTART project. The CALSTART URL has links to hundreds
of companies and worldwide programs in new types of transportation systems
from flywheels to fuel cells and electric vehicles:

http://www.calstart.org/8080

There is enough information and links at these URLs to keep you busy for
several weeks.

If you are looking for far out concepts that are not totally practical
today I’d suggest reading the Science Fiction/Fact book “Timemaster" by Dr.
Robert Forward (Tor Books, NY 1992),which discusses concepts and problems
with future transport including time travel.

Best regards, your Mad Scientist
Adrian Popa
