How lucky you are to be having such an incredible event happening so close
to you! The incubation period of a mallard is between 26 and 30 days, so
in less than a month you'll see the chicks. As soon as the young are dry,
the mother will lead them to the nearest water. About 49 to 60 days after
hatching, the chicks will learn how to fly.
Your case is fairly unusual. Most mallards make their nests on the
ground, in the reeds or along a lake, it is rare that a mallard lays their
eggs above ground especially in a tree. Enjoy this event and perhaps share
it with friends (just please remember to keep a safe observing distance).
I hope this experience will turn you into life-long birdwatchers!
