Hello I am an eight grade science teacher
and today in class we began to discuss
evolution,and the fact that mitochondrial
DNA is passed down from mother to
daughter with very little change.
I read in a text that the DNA in the
mitochondria stays the same because the
DNA is from only the egg
( the male mitochondria is on the tail of
the sperm). Somehow into this though,
there is variation in male mitochondrial
DNA and I am not sure how it arises. If
you can respond to this it would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
