Matt-

I have found all of the following information at the National Center for Biotechnology Information. It has an abundance of information, including a searchable taxonomy server.

Earthworms are quite diverse, in that they represent an entire order, called Lumbricina within the phylum Annelida. The common earthworm's genus/species is Lumbricus terrestris, though many other worms are considered earthworms.

I recommend visiting the above sites for more information on these diverse organisms!
