There are electric fields and there are magnetic fields.  They affect
charged particles and this is their only effect.  There is so far no
residue that has been discovered. You can however magnetize a screwdriver
by laying it on a permanent magnet for a few days.  The atoms in the steel
become aligned like those of the magnet to create a weak permanent magnet.
