Hi Greg,

The answer is no.

Unless the nail bed (the growing area at the base of the nail underneath
the cuticle)is destroyed, nails will continue to grow throughout life (it
takes up to three months or so for a new finger nail to grow, and up to
six months or so for a new toe nail).

If the nail bed is damaged, then an abnormal nail will grow, with a ridge
or defect corresponding to the area of damage at the bed.

Best wishes

Doc C-P
