What is the environmental impact of India and Pakistan's 12 nuclear tests in 2 weeks?

I doubt there is much environmental impact at all. All the tests were performed about a kilometer underground; the major environmental hazard from bomb testing stems from the release of fallout into the atmosphere. The main environmental problem from an underground test would be groundwater seeping through the test sites and picking up contaminated minerals.

However, as far as I know all the tests were performed in desert areas, so there's not much groundwater to leach radioactives from the test residues.
