Ideally one has access to one or more Global Positioning Systems which
report the latitude and longitude to within 5 meters. Using these, you
can record the latitude and longitude of each vertex of the boundary.

If you do not have the global positioning system, then you would locate
each vertex of the property, and determine its coordinates relative to an
arbritary center of the property. You would use ordinary surveying
techniques to determine these coordinates.

Once you have the cordinates of each vertex, you can have a computer
compute the area of the property.
