If all of the planets were propelled into the Sun, nothing very noticeable would happen! This is because the planets are insignificant compared to the Sun. The Sun is so much more massive than all of the planets combined. In fact the Sun is 99% of the mass of the entire solar system. If propelled into the Sun, the planets would not have any effect on the sun's orbit in our galaxy. However, the planets are made of different material than the sun. If we could watch a planet plunge into the sun, we might see some small effects like a strange spot or cloud that would last a couple of years before being diluted in the massive sun. A poor analogy would be putting a cup of watery orange juice into a lake. For a very short time there would be a little cloud of orange in a tiny spot, but over time, and overall, it would make no difference to such a comparatively large body of water. Sara Seager
