where is all the data of the internet stored?
The Internet is not one big computer sitting somewhere. It is a
communication system between lots and lots of computers, small, big and
medium-sized. The data of the internet is stored on individual computers,
called servers; for example, my web pages at http://cs.bluffton.edu/~berger/
are stored on a machine called cs.bluffton.edu, in a directory abbreviated
"~berger".
In general, the data contained in an individual page is stored on the
computer named in the first part of the URL; however, because pages can
contain links to other pages (on other computers) a page can link
to much more data than could possibly be stored on one computer.
