Dear Adam,
The energy of the fusion reaction will escape. Charged particles
released in fusion reactions typically acquire energies of around a
million electron volts. This ten times more than the electric field.
In addition, neutrinos and gamma rays may carry some of the energy.
These particles have no electric charge and will pass right through
the electric field without even slowing down!
