The Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR - the minimum amount of energy needed to 
maintain body functions) of an adult male (70kg at age 25) is 2500 
Kilocalories per day. We can use this figure to do some basic conversions:

If we convert Kcals to cals that comes to a BMR of 2500000 cals.

To get Kilowatt/hours we mulitply this number by .000001163, which yields 
2.91 Kw-hr.

To get Btu's  we multiply by .003968, which yeilds 9920 Btu's.
