My wife is missing her spleen and one kidney due to surgery more than 25 years ago. Just last week she was advised by her nephralogy doctor that she should not consider having any dogs becuase of possibility of bites and bacterial infections.

She is somewhat bewildered that after so many years a doctor tells her that it could be fatal is she was bitten. Is there substantial evidence that this is possible. We currently do not have a pet.
