Ethanol can be synthesized into several different types of compounds.   It 
is usually used as a solvent in laboratory environments or as a reagent (a 
component of a chemical reaction). 

It is also used as a fuel additive (denatured) or as a consumable 
(alcoholic beverage).

I don't believe that it is transformed into methanol during combustion.  
Most likely only carbon dioxide and water, maybe some carbon monoxied.  It 
all depends on how the reaction is carried out.
