MadSci Network: Genetics |
Hello, I write children's books, and currently am working on one set in 1726 about a girl who has an Ojibwa Indian mother and a French father, with blue eyes and red hair. Is it possible for the girl to have black hair and blue eyes? Or must she inherit the gene for blue eyes from both parents? If so, I would make the girl's mother 1/4 French; and her father full French. In that case, is it possible for her to have black hair and blue eyes? Or, if she has blue eyes, would it be likely that her hair would not be pure black, but something lighter? These may seem like odd questions, but the girl's mixed heritage and her feelings about her looks are vital to the story. Thank you so much for any assistance.
