this is due to magma contracting and solidifying.  The earth 
then contracts to compensate the loss of space.  I know that 
this isnt true and that wegener is responsible for plate 
tectonics but it is something i have to do.  I know that it is a 
little obscure but it would be wonderful if you could help 
me.THANKYOU
