Subject: A group of students in Chemistry 1412 were given this problem to determine

why it is not appropriate (not enough information, too vague, 
etc.) for middle school students in a science class.  When an 
acid combines with a base in equal proportions, the pH of the 
resulting solution is a) 0 b) 5 c) 7 d) 14  e) none of the 
above.  We would like some direction in reconstructing the 
question.  Thank you.
