Hi Tim,

Excessive sweating, or Hyperhydrosis, can have various causes, such as
fever or endocrine disorders, but this tends to cause generalized
sweating. Unfortunately, the cause of localized hyperhydrosis (i.e.
confined to certain body areas, such as the armpits or the groin) is not
known, and can occur in otherwise healthy individuals.

Treatment is usually in the form of topical applications, containing
aluminium chloride (in the UK this is available as Anhydrol Forte).
Sometimes, if the problem is resistant to all simple measures, and is
causing distress, a more radical treatment, such as surgery to sever the
sympathetic nervous system connections to the affected area, might have to
be considered.

Best wishes

Doc C-P
