Interesting question!! The reason why animals, not only parrots, live longer in captivity is that in nature, the sick, injured, smaller and weaker animals usually get predated on and weeded out from the pack, this process is called natural selection. In captivity they live in an environment which rules out this selection process. Constant food supply, veterinarian attention and no competition means that we humans are giving them a lifestyle which allows them to reach a ripe old age. This applies to any animal that is taken into captivity, although there is a small probability that a wild animal taken into captivity could die of stress, this usually happens within a few days, and pretty rarely.
