My students are researching the history of the development of 
domestic animals.  We would like to know how to distinguish, 
using the scientific name, between different breeds of cats and 
dogs.  For example, how does the scientific name distinguish 
between the german sheperd and the collie?  Or, between himalayan 
cats and persians?
