Hi Erin In normal circumstances, about 100 million spermatozoa are ejaculated into the vagina at intercourse in humans, yet only about 100 manage to reach the ovum in the tubal ampulla. This distance (vagina to ampulla) is covered in about 30 minutes, so fertilization can take place fairly soon after intercourse, yet some spermatozoa may remain fertile and motile in the female reproductive tract for 1 to 2 days. Best wishes Doc C-P
