Any living been (plant ou animal) requires many different substances to live: vitamins, sugars, proteins, etc. In the case of plants, carbohydrates or oils are not strictly necessary since they can get their carbon by photosynthesis. But many other compounds are necessary. Ions are very important. To grow, a plant needs Nitrogen, Potassium, Phosphorous, Magnesium... The point here is: these compounds (among many others) are present in different proportions in each of these liquids. Tea, is one of the bests, because of its an extract of leaves and, being so, contains many substances that are common in a plant. On the other extreme, water constains the smallest ammount of ions and other compounds (it would not taste like water if it had a lot of solutes). The other solutions are somewere between. It is important to note that not only the ammount, but also the kind of solutes, are important to determine the growth of the plant. Each of these solutions (coffee, water, tea,...) has a different taste. This is because they have different types of solutes in the water. It is not a surprise that the plant grow at different rates in each condition. Hugs, Marco.
