All I know so far is that several million years ago, magnetic particles in lava 
hardened in a position so that they pointed toward the magnetic poles at that 
time.  Then some scientist found that the difference between the direction the 
particles were pointing in North America and Europe had a difference of the 
Atlantic Ocean.  What? I don't understand.  Please help if you can, I appreciate 
it.
