Subject: common and scientific name of a rare, purple, giant jellyfish

Dear Mad Science Network,

    CNN's Jim Hill had a story last week about a rare, purple, giant
jellyfish (common name? ).  It was a great story, however they neglected
to include the scientific and common name.

    Can you fill in the blanks?  My natural resources co-associates
would like to know.
