Claudia,
According to the latest statists (for 1998)there were 42 shark attacks off
the coast of Australia - 28 of which were fatal. So about 1/3 of the
victims survived. For world wide figures, I suggest you look at this site,
the Shark research program at the University of Florida Museum of Natural
History. In the statistics section they have lots of data and graphs. The
address is
 http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/Sharks/sharks.htm

Hope this helps, and thanks for using the Mad Scientists Network.

DrJim
