Hi Shannan

There seems to have been a vogue for research into silicone as an
artificial lubricant for joints in the late 60's and early 70's, but not
much since that I am aware of.

The best I can do is to provide the following references which may be of
interest:

1. Wright V. et al - Br. Med. J. 1971 May 15, 2(758):317-22 "Evaluation of
silicone as an an artificial lubricant in osteoarthritis".

2. Vasilenkaitis W. - Ortop Travmatol Protez 1989 Oct. 10 11-5 "Artificial
synovial fluid for the joints" (original in Russian).

I have not come across any work relating to silicone injections which
provide a synthetic cartilage, but perhaps others have.

Best wishes

Doc C-P
