Dear Mr. Donohue, Thank you for your patience in waiting for an answer. This question took a little more research than others. The Macacus rhesus is the only other mammal that I could find with a menstrual cycle. The Macacus rhesus(monkey) has a menstrual cycle of almost three weeks, but flow(blood) last for only 5 days. Menstrual can occur without ovulation, but when ovulation occurs, then 12-14 days later menstrual flows. There are a few similarities with that of humans being the occurence is of equal duration and at monthly intervals. Similar changes in cell type of vaginal contents and histological(tissue) structure of the uterus and uterine tubes. The time of ovulation is comparale to humans, but absence is also common like humans. I hope I have helped you somewhat with this matter, and estrus does in fact belong to the lesser mammals if you will. If you have any further questions I would be glad to help. Morgan D.
