MadSci Network: General Biology |
Paula:
Neat question. I wondered whether this question was an urban myth myself until I looked into it a bit, and actually, Einstein was buried without his brain when he died in 1955. The brain was sectioned and preserved in formaldehyde by Dr. Thomas Harvey. Recently, his brain was examined again and the studies were published in the June 17th issue of the Lancet, and English medical journal.
There is a nice story about his brain and the "differences" between it and a 'normal' brain on abcnews.com. The link is included below. The picture below is of Einstein's brain, taken in 1955. I hope this answers your question and thank you for using MadSci Network.
Thank you:

[Moderator Note: It has been pointed out to us that although this answer is correct in its essential features, Einstein was actually cremated, and not buried. Our thanks to Donita of Hamilton College in Iowa for this correction. -- JL, 2004-12-08]
