One place to look for information on the history of the periodic table is here. You might also try a Yahoo search.

Or if you prefer a book (I do), J.R. Partington devoted all of chapter XV of his influential book, A Short History of Chemistry (available from Dover publications), to the Periodic Law. You should also be able to find information in an encyclopedia; my copy of EncartaTM has a good short history in its article on the Periodic Law.
