When I was at Cornell Univ, a professor there (T. Gold) was pushing
a theory that oil deposits in the Earth do not necessarily form
from decayed biological matter.  Apparently there were efforts
to prove/disprove this by drilling at a site in Sweden (the Siljan
Ring?).  Is there any further information on this?
