Dear Steve,
The question you submitted is a good question. I am from Oklahoma, and
my dad and I raise cattle. the figures I am throwing at you is for the
state of OK. There are two figures that are important to this question, one
the number of cattle in OK., and the number that leaves the state for food
consumption for other states. think of it as state import or export. Ok.
is #6 in the nation for cattle, but remember there are five other states
that have more cattle than Ok. does. The state of Ok. has about 2.3
million cows, just for getting pregnant and having calves that grow up for
slaughter. These cow operations are called cow-calf operations. WE ship
out 2 million each year to the packing plants. McDonalds and wendy's and
fast food hamburger joints use ground beef. an average cow for slaughter
weighs about 1300 pounds, so...just in Oklahoma we produce a little over 2
billion pounds of beef per year, minus bone/organ/hide weights that are
used for
other purpose rather than consumption. Well Steve, I hope I answered your
question with out too much confusion. If you have any questions feel free
to contact me, my E-mail is Nmorganmary@netscape.net
