I really don't know the answer to this question, however, I would refer 
you to the American Egg Board. They are accessible via the Internet.

Admin note:
Birds' eggs are fertilized internally prior to being layed, and even prior
to formation of the egg white and shell.  Once layed, it's too late for
fertilization.
