Dear Jammie,
According to the U.S. Geological Survey's National Earthquake Information Center (NEIC), there are over 3000 seismic stations currently operating across the world. A seismic station can consist of more than one seismometer or other type of seismic detector. For instance, there are 60 seismometers on the Island of Hawaii, "the Big Island", alone. Off the coast of the Big Island, seismometers are even operating on the submerged volcano, Loihi.
I found a wealth of earthquake information at the NEIC's web site. They have facts like: The earth has MILLIONS of earthquakes each year. More than15,000 of those earthquakes are stronger than 4.5 on the Richter Scale. Their web address is: http://wwwneic.cr.usgs.gov/
And, if you like volcanoes like I do, you can try the U.S. Geological Survey's Hawaiian Volcano Observatory website: http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/
Best of luck, Jammie, and thank you for asking your question!
