Scientists mostly communicate with non-scientists through publications:
popular science books and periodicals like Scientific American. (On the
other hand, the material in newspapers or magazines, even in Science
News or the news sections of Science or Nature, is written by
journalists. At least the journalists who write for Science News or
other specifically science-oriented publications are expected to have
a science background...)

Scientists communicate with each other through their professional meetings
and journals.

For more, read "The Same and Not the Same," by Roald Hoffman.
