Before blood is given to a patient all the white blood cells are filtered 
out. These are the only  cells in the blood which contain nuclei so no 
donor DNA is transferred to the host. White cells are larger than red 
cells, about 10 micrometres in dia. and are less numerous, between 7 and 
10 x 10 to the power of 9 in number.
