I,m doing an experiment using plain house hold crystals such as alum, 
sugar, baking soda and salt.  The salt would not melt the way the sugar 
and alum melted. So I would like to know if it is possible to melt salt 
and why the salt wouldn't melt. I assume its because it is an ionic 
crystal and needs a higher temperature. I need to know if this is true.
