Extacy... Not a lot of information is available about this substance, it
is of no clinical use and is mostly absent from medical reference data.
Otherwise known as Methylene-dioxy-methamphetamine, MDMA is an amphetamine
derivative with a similar mode of action to amphetamines. The drug
releases monoamines that interfere with levels of noradrenaline and
seratonin in the body which leads to a change in mental and physical
abilities. Seratonin is an amine present in blood platelets and the
central nervous system. Noradrenaline is a hormone that serves the
periferal sympathetic nervous system
MDMA has mixed stimulant properties, euphoria, arousal and perceptual
disurbance along with seemingly boundless energy.
Toxic effects are hypothermia, exhaustion and dehydration (users
experience extreem thirst. Amphetamine, as a mental health medication has
been superceded. Modern 'mood modifiers' are not addictive.
MDMA is popular because it induces bouts of uncharacteristic energy for
dancing etc, however, it reacts adversly with alcohol
