As far as I know, this has not been used in industry to date. However, 
what an exciting prospect. I love the idea. 

Conceptually, EC could be used for design purposes. Very simply, the best 
solutions would be the ones you like the look of. It is true to say that 
architecture is easily quantifiable, and hence, lends itself to this type 
of computation.

I can see a screen with, say, 25 possible designs. The best two (or three, 
or four) are chosen by the user and the rest are binned. These better 
designs are then bred to form the next set.

So, in summary:

No, I don't think it is used at the moment, but I think it could work.
