I know there are empirically determinated formulas to calculate the
diameter of rods dinamically loaded in the tranversal axis... this
formulas are used to calculate diameters of rods that are loaded with
rotational loads (p.e. plain gears). But how can I calculate the diameter
of a rod that is also loaded with an axial force (p.e. conical gears or a
disbalanced rod)?
Thanks for your help

If I say calculate I mean calculate because I am designing the rod, and that
the reason I can¥t measure it.
The information I have... ONLY THE LOADS that the rod has to support.

Greetings - Your question was not submitted to the
MAD Scientist Network for the following reason:

Please provide further specifics - what information do you have about the
rods and why can't you measure the diameter of the existing rod?. As it
stands it would be difficult for us to find an answer to your question.
