The answer is ... what the name say's:
A hormone what mediates a simpatic reaction.
So now the next question:

What is a sympatic reaction ?
Your body has two main (autonomous control) systems which are called the
sympatic and the parasympatic systems (they are really autonomous ... so
you can't control them) the parasympatic system is working when your body
is in rest (during sleep, after you've eaten your dinner and during
relaxing periods) The other system (sympatic) is working when you're body
is in a state of excitement (this system is also called "Flight or Fright"
system ...this because it was first found in animals...and they fight or
flee when they are in danger). With humans this system is most obvious when
you get scared in a scary movie or when you are walking in a dark alley at
night... or when you are very angry towards some one (the aroused state).
This hormone probably is adrenaline also called epinephrine (in science)
But there are also other sympathomimetic hormones. which all have their
specific actions.

I hope I've helped you with your question ...

Good luck
Dave
