Any array or large group of sharp objects will produce the same effect as long as there are enough of them packed tightly enough so as to reduce the pressure placed on any one sharp object. The bed of nails works by spreading the force (or pressure) among a large number of objects so that the average force (or pressure) on any one of the objects is small.
